Where is the fuse box on a trx450r?
If your dirt bike won't start or stay running, it's known by all how frustrating and embarrassing this can be. Even more so after you've run the battery down, tried push starting it or even leaned the bike against something so you can deliver a 'better' kick, yet it still won't start and run properly. My Lawn Mower Has Spark & Gas But Won't Start By Eric Blankenburg. And the mower still doesn't start, check the engine for proper compression. Compression gives the engine enough vacuum pressure to keep the moving parts moving and the systems working. If the engine loses this compression, the fuel will stop flowing and the crankshaft.

Question: Hello, I was wondering if it is necessary to run race gas with one of your high compression pistons? I have an 07' RMZ 450 and was considering ordering a high comp (13:1) piston to replace my 12:1 OEM when it's time to install a new top end. If not, what compression ratio is is recommended to run race gas? 13.1:1, 13.5:1? I just ask because I have heard conflicting answers from people, and if I don't have to buy $15/gal race fuel, I'm not. Thanks!
Answer: Thank you for your online question, the question of compression ratio and fuel comes up a lot. In your example, the jump is a full compression point which might seem like a big change, but in reality this is simply the new normal when it comes to compression ratio.
Most modern four stroke dirt bikes use what is known as a “pent roof” combustion chamber design. What this means is a four valve head with very large valve area (as compared to the bore size), and a low valve angle. A pent roof chamber provides the best flow and flame travel, and when combined with modern carburetion and electronics, can give very smooth and high horsepower, all while maintaining low flame travel speed (propagation). Because of this control over combustion, higher compression ratios are possible, with little danger from detonation. In your RMZ for example, stock compression of 12:1 is now considered very low, with production engines now approaching 14:1 (RMZ250 13.9:1, KX250F 13.8:1, KTM250SX-F 13.9:1). These engines run well on pump fuel above 92 Octane, and this is actually recommended by the manufacturers. Only above 14:1 do we recommend that race fuel is required.
That being said, your RMZ450 at 13:1 will run perfectly fine on a high octane pump fuel (+92). What we do recommend is that you purchase fuel when you need it, don’t let fuel sit for longer than a few days as it will lose octane. Also, purchase from a high volume station, this way you know that the fuel should be fresher, and not something that has been underground for months (losing octane and gaining water). One advantage of using race fuel is the consistency, and this is difficult to guarantee when buying pump fuel. Many riders will buy race fuel (to guarantee consistency) and mix this down with pump fuel, as a way to save some cost but still gain the consistency needed. Keep this option in mind, depending on the quality of your local pump fuel.
Lastly, the damage from detonation caused by poor fuel can be something to watch for. Listen for the tell tale sound of detonation, known as the “death rattle”; with the bike under a heavy load, perhaps high temperatures, you will hear the hammering sound emanating from the top end. This is the warning sign to back off the engine, and stop riding until you can address the issue with fresh fuel.
